Skyborne in WoW: Forever — New Race, Classes, Zephras Isle and How to Unlock
World of Warcraft: Forever is introducing the Skyborne, a new playable elven race with an elemental heritage, a dedicated starting zone and different traditions across the Horde and Alliance. Here is what Blizzard has revealed, and what prospective players should consider before purchasing an upgrade.

Who are the Skyborne?
The Skyborne trace their origins to ancient Highborne elves who forged an alliance with wind spirits and built a new society in Skywall. Their isolation shaped a distinct culture influenced by elemental magic, their elven ancestry and the dangers of their unusual home.
Explore Zephras Isle
Skyborne characters begin their adventure on Zephras Isle, a new level 1–12 starting zone. As protective wind spirits disappear and tensions rise, players investigate the island's troubles and discover their people's history before setting out into Azeroth.
Horde Windshapers and Alliance High Order
Skyborne can join either faction. Horde-aligned Windshapers retain stronger elemental traditions and can become Druids, Hunters, Rogues, Shamans or Warriors. Alliance-aligned High Order Skyborne follow a more arcane path and can become Druids, Hunters, Mages, Rogues or Warriors. Both traditions have distinctive appearance options, animations, racial abilities and druid forms.
A playable race, not just a cosmetic skin
The appeal of Skyborne extends beyond appearance. Their faction choices, class combinations, new starting quests and lore make them a substantial addition to a Classic-inspired world. The race also offers Blizzard an opportunity to expand the relationship between Azeroth's elves and the elemental planes.
How do you unlock Skyborne?
Although the base World of Warcraft: Forever experience is included with an active WoW subscription or paid Game Time, access to the Skyborne race and Zephras Isle requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher qualifying edition. Subscribers should compare the editions carefully if their primary interest is playing this new race.
Why the upgrade requirement matters
Making a playable race part of an additional purchase raises a meaningful question about what counts as optional premium content in an MMORPG. Some players may value the added story and character options, while others may prefer playable races to be included with their subscription. Blizzard's decision may shape expectations for future Forever content.
When is WoW: Forever launching?
World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch globally on 4 November 2026. The Skyborne are one of the most prominent new features accompanying the launch, while the free stress test on 19 October gives players a separate opportunity to experience Forever without a subscription; it should not be confused with full access to the paid Skyborne upgrade.
New Format perspective
The Skyborne combine familiar Warcraft history with new storytelling possibilities. Their divided traditions and new starting area could become a memorable introduction to Forever. The key consideration for buyers is whether the race and its associated content justify the required edition upgrade.
