ELTA: DEFY ALL GODS — FIGHT YOUR WAY PAST THE GODS

Afterburner Studios Reveals a Stylish Science-Fantasy Action Platformer at Gamescom 2026

Cologne, Germany — August 25, 2026

The Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live Pre-Show reached its twelfth title with the world reveal of a brand-new action game from Afterburner Studios, the team behind Dreamscaper.

The game is:

ELTA: DEFY ALL GODS

Presented through a Reveal Trailer, the project combines free-form melee combat, fluid 3D platforming and science-fantasy exploration.

And at the centre of the adventure is an unusual partnership:

A warrior monk and a dragon-god.

⚔️ THE TWELFTH GAME OF THE PRE-SHOW

Elta: Defy All Gods was the 12th title shown during the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live Pre-Show. (Glitched)

The reveal represented a major new project from Afterburner Studios, the independent team known for Dreamscaper.

The studio is now moving away from its previous roguelike formula and into a much larger third-person action-adventure experience.

🧑‍🚀 MEET VICTUS

Players take control of:

Victus

An elite warrior monk chosen by his people to search for their lost god.

His mission takes an unexpected turn when he becomes stranded on a hostile planet.

There is no easy way home.

The only possibility is to fight through the corrupted worlds surrounding him.

And Victus won’t be doing it alone.

🐉 MEET ELTA

Elta is the protagonist’s mysterious companion — a dragon-god who has lost much of its former power.

Victus must help restore Elta’s abilities.

The relationship between the two characters is therefore central to the game’s premise.

Elta isn’t simply another creature accompanying the player.

The dragon-god is directly connected to the larger conflict and the player’s ultimate objective.

The official description puts it simply: restore Elta’s power and become the champion of a fallen god. (gamescom)

🌌 SCIENCE FANTASY

The setting is one of the game’s most distinctive features.

Elta: Defy All Gods doesn’t take place in a conventional medieval fantasy world.

Instead, it combines:

Ancient mythology

Advanced technology

Alien environments

Magic

Martial arts

Science-fiction architecture

The result is a science-fantasy universe.

The player can move from mysterious natural environments into enormous technological structures, creating a world where mythology and futuristic design exist side by side.

👊 FREE-FORM MELEE COMBAT

Combat is at the centre of the experience.

Victus uses martial arts and powerful melee attacks to fight groups of enemies.

The developers are describing the system as free-form combat, meaning players can chain attacks and movement together rather than relying exclusively on fixed attack sequences.

The result is designed to feel fluid and aggressive.

Fight. Move. Jump. Dash. Repeat.

🥋 MARTIAL ARTS MEET MAGIC

Victus isn’t simply a heavily armoured warrior.

The combat system combines physical martial arts with supernatural abilities.

Players can therefore mix:

melee attacks

  • ●

magic

  • ●

movement abilities

to create their own combat sequences.

This combination gives the game a much faster feel than a traditional action RPG.

🏃 PLATFORMING IS PART OF THE COMBAT

Movement isn’t separated from exploration.

Victus can use abilities such as:

  • Double jumps

  • Air dashes

  • Wall runs

  • Grappling-style movement

  • Acrobatic traversal

These abilities allow players to move through the environment quickly and reach areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. (Focus Together)

The goal is to make movement feel like another part of the action rather than simply a way of travelling between fights.

🌍 THREE SCIENCE-FANTASY WORLDS

The game will take players through three interconnected science-fantasy worlds.

Each environment contains its own challenges, enemies and secrets.

Exploration therefore becomes more than simply moving forward.

Players can combine their traversal abilities to reach hidden areas and discover additional content. (gamescom)

🧭 EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY

The developers are placing significant emphasis on exploration.

The worlds contain hidden areas that can only be reached by combining different movement abilities.

That gives progression a practical purpose.

As Victus becomes more capable, previously inaccessible locations can become reachable.

This creates a natural loop:

Explore → unlock abilities → reach new areas → discover secrets → become stronger.

🌳 THE GODS ARE YOUR ENEMIES

The title isn’t subtle about the game’s ultimate objective.

Defy All Gods.

The gods that once mattered to Victus’s people have become corrupted.

The player must confront them.

That means the game’s major encounters aren’t simply powerful monsters.

They are part of the mythology and the central conflict.

👹 LARGE-SCALE BOSS FIGHTS

The reveal trailer showcased enemies dramatically larger than Victus.

These encounters underline the scale of the game’s world.

The player may be physically small compared with the creatures and gods they confront, but mobility becomes the key advantage.

Instead of matching enormous enemies through brute strength, Victus can use speed, acrobatics and supernatural abilities to survive.

🌟 THE DRAGON-GOD PARTNERSHIP

Elta is arguably the most unusual element of the game.

The player isn’t simply accompanied by a traditional animal companion.

Elta is a god.

But a weakened one.

Restoring the dragon’s powers is therefore directly connected to the player’s journey.

That creates an interesting narrative relationship:

Victus needs Elta.

Elta needs Victus.

Their survival depends on each other.

🎮 A DIFFERENT DIRECTION FOR AFTERBURNER STUDIOS

Afterburner Studios previously released Dreamscaper, an action-roguelike.

With Elta: Defy All Gods, the studio is taking a much more ambitious approach.

Instead of procedurally generated runs, the new project is built around a larger single-player adventure with exploration, platforming and combat.

The studio says the experience is expected to last approximately 20–25 hours. (Focus Together)

🎬 THE GAMESCOM REVEAL

The Gamescom trailer gave viewers their first look at:

  • Victus

  • Elta

  • The science-fantasy setting

  • Combat

  • Martial arts

  • Platforming

  • Wall-running

  • Acrobatic movement

  • Supernatural enemies

  • Large bosses

It was enough to establish the game’s identity without revealing the entire story.

And perhaps most importantly, it showed that Elta is built around movement.

📅 RELEASE WINDOW

Elta: Defy All Gods is scheduled to launch in:

EARLY 2027

The game is coming to:

PC via Steam

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series X|S (Focus Entertainment)

🧪 A DEMO IS COMING

Players won’t have to wait until 2027 to try the game.

A free playable demo is scheduled for:

OCTOBER 1, 2026

The demo will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. (Focus Entertainment)

That makes Elta one of the more immediately accessible reveals of the entire Pre-Show.

Players will be able to experience the game’s combat and movement systems for themselves several months before launch.

🔥 OUR TAKE

Elta: Defy All Gods was one of the most intriguing new IPs in the Pre-Show.

The combination is unusual:

Martial arts

  • ●

3D platforming

  • ●

Science fantasy

  • ●

Gods

  • ●

A dragon companion

The most promising element may ultimately be the movement system.

Double jumps, air dashes and wall-running can make platforming feel much more dynamic when they are integrated directly into combat.

And with a playable demo arriving on October 1, we’ll have the opportunity to find out much sooner whether the game’s ambitious concept actually works in practice.
