ANIIMO — THE WORLD OF IDYLL OPENS THIS SEPTEMBER
Gamescom 2026 Pre-Show Reveals a Global Launch Date for the Open-World Creature-Collecting RPG
Cologne, Germany — August 25, 2026
The fourth game presented during the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live Pre-Show brought a very different kind of adventure to the broadcast.
After Worms: Galactic Tactics, Train Sim World 7 and RollerCoaster Tycoon: Wonderworks, the spotlight moved to a colourful open world populated by mysterious creatures.
ANIIMO
Developed by Pawprint Studio, Aniimo is a free-to-play open-world creature-collecting RPG built around exploration, combat, evolution and a distinctive mechanic that allows players to become the creatures they encounter.
And Gamescom brought one of the biggest announcements yet:
ANIIMO HAS A RELEASE DATE.
🌍 THE FOURTH GAME OF THE PRE-SHOW
Aniimo appeared as the fourth title in the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live Pre-Show.
The new trailer revealed the global launch schedule:
PC & Consoles — September 16, 2026
Mobile — September 23, 2026
The announcement was subsequently confirmed by Pawprint Studio, which described the game as an adventure that bridges reality and fantasy.
This makes Aniimo one of the earliest major releases coming out of the Gamescom pre-show.
🐾 WELCOME TO IDYLL
The game takes players to the fantasy continent of Idyll, where mysterious creatures known as Aniimo inhabit the world.
Players take the role of Pathfinders, exploring the open world while discovering, collecting, training and evolving Aniimo.
The world isn’t simply a collection of separate areas.
The developers are aiming for a seamless open-world experience in which exploration, creature interaction and combat are closely connected.
🧭 EXPLORE A LIVING OPEN WORLD
Exploration is one of the central pillars of Aniimo.
Players can travel through different environments while searching for new creatures and discovering areas of Idyll.
The Aniimo themselves aren’t simply collectibles stored away after being captured.
They can become an active part of exploration.
And this leads to one of the game’s most interesting mechanics.
🔄 THE TWINE SYSTEM
One of Aniimo’s defining features is its Twine mechanic.
Instead of simply commanding a creature from the sidelines, players can directly become an Aniimo.
This changes the way exploration and combat work.
Different creatures provide different abilities, allowing players to use their forms to:
Travel through the environment
Fly
Move through difficult terrain
Explore areas from different perspectives
Solve environmental puzzles
Fight other creatures
The mechanic effectively connects the player character and their Aniimo rather than treating them as completely separate entities.
⚔️ REAL-TIME COMBAT
Aniimo also features real-time combat.
Rather than relying entirely on menu-based commands, players can actively participate in battles.
The creatures have different abilities and characteristics, giving players opportunities to build teams around different playstyles.
The Gamescom presentation also showcased larger-scale encounters, giving a glimpse of battles that go beyond simple one-on-one encounters.
🧬 EVOLUTION
Collecting Aniimo is only the beginning.
Players can also develop and evolve their creatures.
Different Aniimo can have different appearances, personalities and evolutionary possibilities.
According to information released around Gamescom, even creatures belonging to the same species can vary depending on factors such as their environment and temperament.
This gives the collecting system an additional layer.
You’re not necessarily looking for just one example of a creature.
You may want to find the right one.
🌊 THE WORLD GOES FURTHER
The Gamescom trailer also revealed additional aspects of the world that had not been as prominent in earlier footage.
The latest material showed:
Water traversal
Larger-scale battles
Group encounters
Additional creature forms
Expanded Homeland features
The trailer therefore wasn’t simply a release-date announcement.
It also provided new information about what players can expect when the game launches.
🏡 BUILD YOUR HOMELAND
Exploration isn’t the only way players interact with the world.
Aniimo also features Homeland, giving players their own space that can be developed and customised.
The Gamescom footage showed a more substantial house environment than previously seen, suggesting that the player’s personal space will be an important part of the overall experience.
🤝 PLAY WITH OTHERS
Aniimo isn’t designed purely as a solo experience.
The game includes multiplayer and cooperative elements, allowing players to experience parts of the world together.
The broader feature set includes:
Multiplayer exploration
Cooperative gameplay
Creature collection
Real-time combat
Evolution
Housing
Open-world exploration
That combination gives Aniimo ambitions beyond a traditional creature-collecting RPG.
🎮 FREE-TO-PLAY
One of the most important things players should know is that Aniimo is:
FREE-TO-PLAY.
That model will make the game significantly more accessible when it launches across multiple platforms.
At the same time, the free-to-play structure means the long-term monetisation model will be something players will want to watch closely after launch.
💻 SEPTEMBER 16 — PC AND CONSOLES
The first launch date is:
SEPTEMBER 16, 2026
The game will arrive on:
PlayStation 5
Xbox Series X|S
PC
Steam
Epic Games Store
The official announcement confirms the PC and console launch for September 16.
📱 SEPTEMBER 23 — MOBILE
Mobile players won’t have to wait much longer.
The iOS and Android versions launch on:
SEPTEMBER 23, 2026
That’s exactly one week after the PC and console release.
The multi-platform launch makes Aniimo one of the broader releases featured during the Gamescom pre-show.
🥚 PRE-REGISTRATION
The developers have also been building anticipation through a pre-registration campaign.
By the time of Gamescom, the campaign had already passed several major milestones, unlocking rewards for registered players.
These include:
Glimmer ×200
Aniipod Ultra ×2
Companion Promise Avatar Frame
A further milestone is tied to reaching 30 million pre-registrations.
🎨 A DIFFERENT TAKE ON CREATURE COLLECTING
At first glance, Aniimo may look familiar to anyone who has played creature-collecting games.
But the developers are trying to distinguish it through its combination of:
Open-world exploration
●
Real-time combat
●
Creature transformation
●
Multiplayer
●
Homeland customisation
The Twine system is arguably the most important difference.
Instead of simply sending a creature into battle, the player can become part of the creature itself.
🌟 GAMESCOM 2026 UPDATE
The Gamescom pre-show therefore gave Aniimo something it had previously lacked:
A confirmed global release date.
The project had already attracted attention through its creature-collecting mechanics and open-world design.
Now players know exactly when they can enter Idyll.

🔥 WHY ANIIMO IS WORTH WATCHING
The creature-collecting genre has become increasingly competitive.
Aniimo therefore needs more than cute creatures to stand out.
Its strongest argument is the way it combines creature collection with open-world traversal.
The ability to transform into an Aniimo can fundamentally change how players move through the world and interact with it.
That is potentially much more important than simply adding another collection system.
🎮 OUR TAKE
Aniimo is one of the more ambitious games in the Gamescom pre-show lineup.
Its visual style may initially suggest a straightforward creature-collecting adventure.
But underneath that is a broader combination of:
RPG progression
open-world exploration
real-time combat
creature evolution
multiplayer
housing
and the distinctive Twine mechanic.
The real test will come after launch: whether all these systems work together to create a cohesive experience rather than simply a large list of features.
But Gamescom has certainly made Aniimo one to watch.

With the Gamescom announcement now behind it, the countdown is official.
