Excerpt: The Tokyo Direct ranged from classic RPG collections to horror, strategy and co-op experiments, giving PC players a packed set of new games to track.
The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct returned alongside TGS with a broad showcase of games and updates. PC Gamer’s recap counted 36 games and downloadable-content updates, including 13 world premieres. The line-up moved across genres and scales, from revivals of older favourites to strange new concepts built for the current PC scene.
One of the most notable heritage announcements was Lufia 1 & 2: The Sinistrals Saga, a package bringing the first two games in the RPG series to PC for the first time through an official release. It is a reminder that PC audiences often meet classic games through new releases and preserved collections, not only brand-new projects.
The show also leaned into unusual premises. Really Illegal Golf was introduced as a stealth-and-golf game about sneaking into places to play a round. Night Plane mixes flight-attendant duties with supernatural horror, while Let’s Build a Dungeon turns the player’s attention to running a game studio and creating an MMO. These hooks are easy to remember because they communicate a game’s core idea quickly.
There was room for established series, too. Stronghold 4 offered a new entry in the castle-building strategy series, while Ball x Pit announced an expansion with new content. Other updates included release dates, demos and new looks at upcoming projects. That combination makes a showcase useful at different stages of a player’s discovery: some games are ready to try, others to wishlist, and some are simply worth watching.
For New Format, the Tokyo Direct’s value lies in its range. A single broadcast placed nostalgia, experimentation, horror, strategy and co-operative play beside one another. It did not define one future for PC gaming. It showed how many different futures can be in development at once.
