TANUKI: Pon’s Summer Revealed at Gamescom 2026: A Cosy Japanese Summer Adventure on Two Wheels

Deliver Parcels, Make Friends and Restore a Forgotten Shrine
FGS Live from Gamescom 2026 brought a fresh gameplay trailer for TANUKI: Pon’s Summer, a charming life-simulation adventure developed by Denkiworks and published by Critical Reflex.
Players take control of Pon, a friendly tanuki who spends the summer working as a part-time postal worker in a colourful Japanese town.
But delivering parcels is only the beginning.
Welcome to Pon’s Summer
TANUKI: Pon’s Summer is built around the simple pleasures of exploring a Japanese town, meeting its inhabitants and becoming part of the local community.
Pon travels around on a BMX, delivering packages while discovering new areas and interacting with the people who live there.
The game combines:
🚲 BMX exploration
📦 Parcel deliveries
🏮 Japanese town life
🤝 Building friendships
🎣 Relaxing activities
⛩️ Shrine restoration
🌸 Seasonal events
The result is a deliberately relaxed experience focused on exploration and relationships rather than combat.
A Summer Job With a Bigger Purpose
Pon’s postal work provides the structure for the adventure.
Players deliver parcels throughout the town, meeting different residents along the way and gradually learning more about their lives.
But Pon has another important mission.
A local shrine needs to be restored before the end of summer.
This gives the game a larger objective beyond simply completing deliveries.
Explore by BMX
One of the most distinctive features is Pon’s BMX.
Instead of simply walking between locations, players can cycle around the town and surrounding areas.
The bicycle becomes an important part of exploration, allowing Pon to travel between deliveries while discovering hidden locations and activities.
It also contributes to the game’s strong sense of freedom.
Make Friends Along the Way
The inhabitants of the town are an important part of Pon’s summer.
Players can meet different characters, complete activities with them and gradually develop relationships.
This social element gives the game a warm, community-focused atmosphere.
Rather than treating NPCs as background characters, TANUKI: Pon’s Summer encourages players to get to know the people who live around them.
Restore the Shrine
The larger goal of the summer is to restore a local shrine before the season ends.
This provides a gentle sense of progression throughout the game.
Every delivery, interaction and activity can contribute to Pon’s growing connection with the town and its residents.
The shrine therefore becomes a symbol of the player’s progress through the summer.
A Celebration of Japanese Summer
The game’s presentation is heavily inspired by the atmosphere of a Japanese summer.
The colourful environments, traditional architecture and local characters create a setting that feels deliberately nostalgic.
Rather than focusing on danger or conflict, the game celebrates everyday moments:
cycling through town, meeting neighbours, completing deliveries and enjoying the season.
Coming Soon
TANUKI: Pon’s Summer is coming to PC and consoles.
A demo is already available on Steam, giving players an opportunity to experience the game before its full release.
The full release is currently listed as coming soon.
Why TANUKI: Pon’s Summer Is Worth Watching
The life-simulation genre has grown significantly, but TANUKI: Pon’s Summer has a particularly strong identity.
Its combination of:
tanuki protagonist + BMX exploration + postal deliveries + Japanese summer + friendship + shrine restoration
makes it immediately recognisable.
It’s not trying to create a massive open-world adventure.
Instead, it focuses on making a small community feel alive.
