GAMESCOM 2026 — 18:00–19:00 FINAL HOURS UPDATE

The Witcher, Final Conversations and the Beginning of the Goodbye

Cologne, Germany — August 30, 2026

Gamescom 2026 is now entering its final two hours.

The exhibition floor is still alive, the last visitors are moving between halls, final meetings are taking place and the atmosphere across Cologne is beginning to change.

This is no longer the Gamescom of massive Opening Night Live surprises.

This is the Gamescom of final conversations.

Final gameplay sessions.

Final community moments.

And increasingly, one important question:

What happens after Cologne?

At 18:00, the answer is beginning to take shape.

🐺 THE WITCHER TAKES CENTRE STAGE AGAIN

One of the most important final-hour discussions is coming directly from:

CD PROJEKT RED

The studio’s final-day REDstreams programme has returned once again to:

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past

From 17:30 to 18:15 CEST, CD PROJEKT RED scheduled an English-language Q&A session dedicated to the upcoming expansion.

That makes this one of the final major Witcher discussions of the entire Gamescom week.

And it is fitting.

Because no matter how many games were shown during Gamescom 2026, The Witcher has remained one of the most discussed franchises of the event.

🎤 SONGS OF THE PAST — THE QUESTIONS FANS ARE STILL ASKING

The Gamescom conversations surrounding the new expansion have created several major talking points.

Fans are continuing to ask:

How large will Songs of the Past be?

How important is the new story to Geralt’s journey?

Will the expansion connect directly with the future of the franchise?

How much of the new world will players be able to explore?

Could this be one of Geralt’s final major adventures?

Not every answer has been revealed.

And that is probably intentional.

CD PROJEKT RED has used Gamescom to introduce the project, explain its direction and bring developers into direct conversation with fans.

But the studio is still protecting major parts of the expansion.

That means Gamescom has given us:

THE BEGINNING OF THE CONVERSATION

—not the entire story.

🧙 THE WITCHER STRATEGY IS NOW CLEARER

After several days of REDstreams, panels and Gamescom appearances, one thing is becoming increasingly obvious:

CD PROJEKT RED is building a bridge.

On one side:

THE WITCHER 3

The legacy.

The story of Geralt.

One of the most influential RPGs of the modern era.

In the middle:

THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT — REMASTERED

A technical return.

A chance for existing and new players to revisit the world.

And then:

SONGS OF THE PAST

A new chapter.

A return to the Path.

And potentially an important final expansion of Geralt’s era.

Beyond that:

THE WITCHER 4

The next saga.

The future.

The transition towards Ciri.

Gamescom 2026 has therefore been more than a promotional event.

It has helped explain how several generations of The Witcher franchise could coexist.

🔴 THE FINAL CD PROJEKT RED MOMENT

At:

18:30–19:00

CD PROJEKT RED closes its Gamescom programme with:

“See you next time, gamescom!”

The title is simple.

But symbolically, it matters.

After five days of REDstreams, the studio is closing one of its largest public Gamescom programmes.

Throughout the week, the team has explored:

  • Songs of the Past

  • characters and monsters

  • story and world-building

  • The Witcher 3’s legacy

  • Geralt and Dandelion

  • community discussions

  • The Witcher 3 Remastered

  • gameplay improvements

  • technical questions

  • fan Q&As

The result has been one of the most detailed developer-focused programmes at Gamescom 2026.

🎮 THE GAMESCOM STORY IS NOW MOVING FROM REVEALS TO ANALYSIS

This is an important moment for the entire event.

The trailers have already been shown.

The announcements have already been made.

The awards have been presented.

Now begins the next phase.

ANALYSIS

Over the coming weeks, the industry will start asking:

Which trailers created genuine excitement?

Which playable demos impressed visitors?

Which games will actually release on schedule?

Which Gamescom announcements will still matter in six months?

Which games will disappear from the conversation?

That is the real test of Gamescom.

Because winning the week is not the same as winning the future.

🏆 THE POST-GAMESCOM WATCHLIST

Several games are leaving Cologne with serious momentum.

🚇 METRO 2039

One of the most nominated games at the awards and winner of Best Visuals.

The next major Metro chapter is now firmly on the industry’s watchlist.

⚔️ ONIMUSHA: WAY OF THE SWORD

A double Gamescom Awards winner.

Best Gameplay.

Best PlayStation Game.

Capcom now leaves Gamescom with strong evidence that its return to Onimusha has captured attention.

👽 ALIEN: ISOLATION 2

A major SEGA title and winner of Best Audio.

Atmosphere and sound have already become central parts of its identity.

🏎️ FORZA HORIZON 6

The winner of Best Microsoft Xbox Game.

Another major signal that Xbox’s future lineup remains one of the biggest stories heading into the next release cycle.

⚔️ TIDES OF ANNIHILATION

Winner of Most Epic.

A strong example of a game that used Gamescom to increase its profile.

🐺 THE WITCHER 3: SONGS OF THE PAST

Perhaps the most fascinating long-term story.

A new chapter connected to one of the most important RPGs ever released.

And a project arriving while the next Witcher saga is already moving forward.

🌆 COLOGNE IS ENTERING ITS FINAL FESTIVAL EVENING

Outside Koelnmesse, Gamescom’s final Sunday continues through the city.

The final evening programme includes:

18:00–19:30

Guildo Horn & Die Orthopädischen Strümpfe

Rudolfplatz

18:30–20:00

The Notwist

Hohenzollernring

Evening performances continue across Cologne

The City Festival is effectively giving Gamescom a second ending.

Inside Koelnmesse, the gaming exhibition is moving towards its 20:00 closing time.

Outside, Cologne is still celebrating.

⏳ TWO HOURS LEFT

At this point, the final-day clock is impossible to ignore.

Only a short amount of time remains before the public exhibition closes.

For visitors, this means:

Final demos

Final photographs

Final merchandise purchases

Final meetings with friends

Final walks through the halls

One last chance to experience Gamescom 2026

For developers and publishers, however, the work is only beginning.

After the booths are dismantled, the marketing campaigns continue.

The games go back into development.

Release dates approach.

And the promises made in Cologne will eventually have to become finished products.

🔮 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER GAMESCOM?

The next few months will be critical.

The industry is now moving towards:

🎌 TOKYO GAME SHOW

More Japanese publisher announcements and international reveals.

🍂 THE AUTUMN RELEASE SEASON

Major launches.

New trailers.

Release-date confirmations.

🏆 THE GAME AWARDS 2026

The final major awards conversation of the year.

Gamescom has now helped establish the names that could remain part of that discussion.

But Gamescom Awards are only one chapter.

The wider industry conversation is still developing.

💬 THE BIGGEST QUESTION OF THE FINAL HOUR

If we had to ask one question at 18:00, it would be:

Which game from Gamescom 2026 will define the next generation?

Could it be:

The Witcher 4?

Metro 2039?

Onimusha: Way of the Sword?

Alien: Isolation 2?

Tides of Annihilation?

Forza Horizon 6?

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation?

Or could the real surprise still come from an indie game that most people have not discovered yet?

That is why Gamescom matters.

The event does not tell us the future.

It gives us the first glimpse of it.

🏁 THE FINAL CD PROJEKT RED GOODBYE

As the 18:30 closing REDstreams session approaches, one of the clearest stories of Gamescom 2026 is coming to an end.

CD PROJEKT RED arrived in Cologne with:

A NEW WITCHER CHAPTER

The studio leaves with:

A BIGGER CONVERSATION

The Remastered edition.

Songs of the Past.

The legacy of Geralt.

The future of Ciri.

And the growing anticipation surrounding the next era of The Witcher.

For a franchise that has been part of gaming culture for decades, Gamescom 2026 has demonstrated something important:

THE WITCHER IS NOT LOOKING BACK.

IT IS BUILDING FORWARD.
