🪐 DUST: ORIGINS — SURVIVAL HORROR IN ORBIT AT GAMESCOM 2026

DUST: ORIGINS — NO SAINTS, ONLY SURVIVORS AT GAMESCOM 2026

A collapsing orbital prison becomes the setting for Airship Syndicate’s darkest adventure yet.

At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, Airship Syndicate unveiled DUST: Origins, a new isometric science-fiction action-horror shooter set aboard a doomed orbital prison.

Known for games including Darksiders Genesis, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story and Wayfinder, the studio is moving into a much darker science-fiction universe with DUST: Origins. The reveal trailer immediately establishes a brutal premise: the prison is falling apart, monsters are loose, ammunition is limited, and survival is the only objective. (CGMagazine)

🚨 WELCOME TO LIMBO-6

The story takes place aboard Limbo-6, an orbital processing and prison facility positioned above the prison planet Dros.

The station is no longer under control.

Its orbit is deteriorating, critical systems are failing and its prisoners are suddenly faced with an entirely new threat.

The player must find a way out before the entire station becomes a graveyard.

But escape won’t be easy.

The facility contains both dangerous criminals and terrifying creatures, turning every corridor into a potential death trap. (CGMagazine)

👁️ A PRISON THAT IS FALLING APART

The Gamescom trailer presents Limbo-6 almost like a surveillance recording.

Security cameras, emergency lighting, industrial corridors and damaged machinery create an atmosphere heavily inspired by classic 1980s and 1990s science-fiction.

The station feels old, heavy and mechanical.

There is little sense of safety.

Every room could contain another threat.

The visual language is a major departure from the colourful fantasy worlds associated with some of Airship Syndicate’s previous projects. (Output Lag)

🔫 EVERY BULLET COUNTS

One of the game’s defining mechanics is resource management.

Ammunition is limited.

Supplies are limited.

And the player cannot simply shoot everything that moves.

Positioning, weapon choice and conservation become essential parts of survival.

This gives DUST: Origins a more deliberate tactical edge than a conventional run-and-gun shooter. (TriplePoint Newsroom)

Shoot carefully. Move intelligently. Survive.

👹 THE MONSTERS

The prison isn’t only populated by humans.

Something much worse has been unleashed.

The trailer shows grotesque creatures moving through the station, forcing players to deal with enemies that are considerably more dangerous than ordinary prison guards.

These creatures reinforce the game’s survival-horror identity while also providing some of the trailer’s most memorable imagery.

👥 NOT EVERY PRISONER IS YOUR ENEMY

The story isn’t simply about shooting your way through the station.

Players will encounter NPCs and other survivors who can provide information, assistance and additional context about what happened aboard Limbo-6.

Choices and actions can affect how the story develops, with multiple possible paths and endings. (CGMagazine)

That means exploration isn’t simply about finding the next weapon.

It can also determine where the story goes.

🗺️ EXPLORE THE STATION

Limbo-6 is designed as a large interconnected environment rather than a simple sequence of linear corridors.

Players can explore different sections of the station, discover logs and restricted information, hack security systems and find upgrades and key items.

The station contains multiple routes, giving players opportunities to decide how they approach different situations. (Steam Store)

🛠️ CRAFTING AND CUSTOMISATION

Survival also depends on preparation.

The game includes crafting, inventory management and character customisation, allowing players to improve their chances as they progress through the station.

Different character classes offer different approaches to combat.

The Gamescom trailer shows characters ranging from fast and agile fighters to much heavier combatants equipped with powerful miniguns. (CGMagazine)

🎯 CHOOSE HOW YOU SURVIVE

The class system creates an important distinction between different play styles.

A fast character can move quickly through dangerous areas.

A heavier character can rely on greater firepower.

That means the player’s approach to combat isn’t necessarily identical throughout the game.

The key is adaptation.

There is more than one way out.

🧠 YOUR CHOICES MATTER

DUST: Origins isn’t presented as a purely action-focused experience.

The developers are also placing considerable emphasis on narrative decisions.

Actions can affect the progression of the story, opening different paths and potentially leading to different endings.

That gives players another reason to explore the station rather than simply rushing toward the exit. (CGMagazine)

📼 A LOVE LETTER TO CLASSIC SCI-FI

The visual design openly embraces the aesthetic of 1980s and 1990s action science-fiction.

Bulky technology.

Industrial machinery.

Dark corridors.

Oversized weapons.

Monstrous creatures.

Emergency lighting.

It creates a world that feels deliberately gritty and physical rather than sleek and futuristic.

Airship Syndicate describes the game’s influences as part of its identity, combining a dark setting with heavy technology and over-the-top creatures. (TriplePoint Newsroom)

🎬 WHAT THE GAMESCOM TRAILER REVEALS

The debut trailer gives us a concentrated look at the game’s core experience:

🚨 A collapsing orbital prison

🔫 Isometric tactical shooting

👹 Monstrous enemies

👥 Prisoners and survivors

🛠️ Crafting and upgrades

🎒 Inventory management

🧠 Meaningful choices

🗺️ Multiple exploration routes

💀 Multiple possible endings

🚀 A desperate escape

The result is a game that combines action with survival-horror tension rather than relying purely on constant firefights. (CGMagazine)

🌌 A NEW UNIVERSE FROM AIRSHIP SYNDICATE

Perhaps the most exciting part of the announcement is that DUST: Origins isn’t another entry in an established fantasy universe.

It is the beginning of a new science-fiction setting created by Airship Syndicate and artist Joe Madureira.

The studio has described DUST as a universe it has wanted to build for years, with a darker tone and a very different setting from its previous fantasy projects. (Gematsu)

💀 NO SAINTS. ONLY SURVIVORS.

That phrase perfectly captures the game’s atmosphere.

There are no traditional heroes waiting to save the day.

There are prisoners.

Survivors.

Monsters.

A failing space station.

And one objective:

GET OUT ALIVE.

📅 RELEASE

DUST: Origins is planned as a premium single-player game for PC via Steam, currently targeting early 2027. A specific release date has not yet been announced. (Playasia Blog)

The game is also currently available to wishlist on Steam. (Steam Store)

Alongside the Gamescom reveal, Airship Syndicate launched a Kickstarter campaign, giving the community an opportunity to support the game’s development. (Gematsu)

🔥 WHY DUST: ORIGINS STANDS OUT

The market is full of science-fiction shooters.

But DUST: Origins is taking a different route.

It isn’t trying to make the player feel invincible.

It wants the player to feel trapped.

The limited ammunition, dangerous environments, unpredictable enemies and branching narrative all reinforce the same idea:

You are not here to conquer the station.

You are here to survive it.

🚀 DUST: ORIGINS

Explore the prison.

Manage your resources.

Choose your allies.

Fight the monsters.

Adapt to the situation.

Find your way out.

The Gamescom 2026 reveal has introduced DUST: Origins as a dark new chapter for Airship Syndicate — a brutal science-fiction adventure where every corridor can become a battlefield and every decision could determine who makes it out alive.
