DUNE: AWAKENING REVEALS FILMIC ARCHIVE DLC AND SEVEN MINUTES OF NEW PS5 PRO GAMEPLAY AT GAMESCOM 2026

Funcom brings Arrakis to the next level at Gamescom with a new film-inspired DLC, seven minutes of PlayStation 5 Pro gameplay and a major update ahead of the September console launch.
Gamescom 2026 has brought a major new update for Dune: Awakening.
Funcom has revealed the Filmic Archive DLC, unveiled seven minutes of new gameplay captured on PlayStation 5 Pro, and confirmed additional details surrounding the game’s upcoming console release.
The announcements arrive just weeks before Dune: Awakening expands beyond PC, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions launching on September 22, 2026. (Bandai Namco Europe)
🎬 THE FILMIC ARCHIVE DLC
The biggest new content announcement is the Filmic Archive DLC.
Launching on September 22, the DLC will be available across supported platforms for $9.99.
Rather than introducing another region of Arrakis, the pack focuses on the visual legacy of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.
Players will be able to bring iconic movie-inspired designs into their own version of Arrakis.
The DLC includes outfits inspired by characters and imagery from the films, including:
Aegis of the Unwalked Path armour
Caladan Stormcoat
New Sardaukar armour
A massive 73-piece Sardaukar-themed base-building set
The Aegis armour is inspired by the armour seen in Paul Atreides’ visions, while the Caladan Stormcoat is associated with Paul and Duke Leto.
The new Sardaukar content gives players another way to transform their bases and characters into something much closer to the visual language of the films. (Wccftech)
🪖 THE SARDauKAR ARRIVE
Few forces in the Dune universe are as recognisable as the Sardaukar.
Funcom is now bringing their distinctive military aesthetic into Dune: Awakening through the new DLC.
The addition isn’t limited to a single costume.
With 73 building pieces, players can create an entire Sardaukar-inspired environment.
That means the DLC can change not only how your character looks, but also the appearance and atmosphere of your base.
For players who want their Arrakis settlement to resemble an Imperial military installation, this could become one of the most substantial cosmetic building sets added to the game.
🎥 SEVEN MINUTES OF NEW GAMEPLAY
Alongside the DLC announcement, Funcom released seven minutes of new gameplay captured on PlayStation 5 Pro.
The footage provides the most substantial look yet at the upcoming console version.
The gameplay demonstrates how Dune: Awakening is being adapted for PlayStation hardware while retaining the large-scale open-world survival experience already established on PC.
The new footage was presented during Gamescom 2026 and gives players a detailed look at the game running on Sony’s more powerful console. (Wccftech)
🎬 Watch the new gameplay:
🖥️ PS5 AND PS5 PRO GRAPHICS MODES
Funcom has also revealed how the game will operate on PlayStation 5.
Both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro will offer two main graphics modes.
PERFORMANCE MODE
Target: 60 FPS
The Performance Mode targets 60 frames per second using dynamic 4K resolution.
This mode is designed for players who prefer smoother gameplay and more responsive controls.
QUALITY MODE
Target: 30 FPS
Quality Mode targets 30 FPS, again using dynamic 4K resolution, while placing greater emphasis on visual quality.
The PlayStation 5 Pro version will additionally benefit from a higher native resolution in both modes and further visual enhancements in Quality Mode. (Wccftech)
🏜️ ARRakis IS COMING TO CONSOLE
The console launch represents much more than simply porting the existing PC version.
Funcom has described the September release as the most expansive version of Dune: Awakening yet.
Players on console will receive the major improvements and content that have been introduced to the PC version since its original launch.
That includes a substantial collection of gameplay improvements, new systems and additional story content. (Level Infinite)
🎮 FULL SINGLE-PLAYER MODE
One of the most important additions arriving with the console launch is a full single-player mode.
This is particularly significant because Dune: Awakening was originally built around its shared survival experience.
Funcom has spent considerable development time expanding the game so players can experience Arrakis alone.
Players will also have access to additional gameplay customisation and adjustable difficulty options.
The result is a version of Dune: Awakening designed to accommodate both players who want the social survival experience and those who prefer to explore Arrakis independently. (Level Infinite)
⚔️ THE STORY CONTINUES
The September release also includes the conclusion of the game’s current Book One storyline.
This gives new console players a much more complete narrative experience from the beginning.
For existing PC players, the same content is being delivered as part of the ongoing development of the game.
Funcom has therefore positioned September 22 as a major milestone rather than simply a platform launch. (Level Infinite)
🌐 CROSS-PLAY IS COMING
Another major announcement from Gamescom is that cross-play between PC and consoles is in development.
However, there is an important limitation:
Cross-play will NOT be available on launch day.
Funcom has confirmed that the feature is planned for a post-launch update, but the studio has not yet committed to a specific release date.
This means PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox players will need to wait for the cross-play feature after the September launch. (Wccftech)
🕹️ XBOX GAME PASS
The Xbox version of Dune: Awakening will also launch through Xbox Game Pass on September 22.
This significantly lowers the barrier for Game Pass subscribers who want to experience Funcom’s version of Arrakis.
The game will also be available physically and digitally on PlayStation 5, with physical distribution handled by partners in different regions. (News Minimalist)
🗓️ SEPTEMBER 22 IS THE BIG DAY
The release schedule is now straightforward.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2026
🎮 PlayStation 5
🎮 Xbox Series X|S
🖥️ PC receives the major console-launch update
Players purchasing the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition can also begin playing five days early, on September 17. (Wccftech)
🌊 WHAT ABOUT FUTURE DLC?
The Filmic Archive DLC is not the end of Funcom’s plans for Arrakis.
The developer has already revealed plans for additional content beyond the September release.
One of the most interesting future additions is the Polar Cap, a new survival map planned as a free update later in 2026.
The icy region will introduce new survival mechanics, stories, crafting and building opportunities, giving players a completely different environment from the deserts of Arrakis. (Dune Awakening)
That could dramatically expand the game’s survival experience.
🎬 FROM DUNE FILMS TO DUNE: AWAKENING
The Filmic Archive DLC is particularly interesting because Dune: Awakening already exists in the same broader visual tradition established by Denis Villeneuve’s films.
The new DLC effectively closes the loop.
Players can now explore Arrakis through Funcom’s open-world survival systems while also incorporating recognisable elements from the cinematic interpretation of the Dune universe.
The result is a game that increasingly sits at the intersection of:
Frank Herbert’s universe.
Denis Villeneuve’s visual language.
Funcom’s survival gameplay.
🏜️ YOUR ARRAKIS, YOUR WAY
One of Dune: Awakening’s strongest ideas has always been player freedom.
You can explore.
You can build.
You can fight.
You can trade.
You can join factions.
You can hunt for spice.
And now you can customise your character and base with even more film-inspired equipment.
The Filmic Archive DLC expands that personalisation while the September update expands the actual game experience.

The addition of cross-play later on could make the community even larger.
