DNA NEMESIS Revealed at Gamescom 2026: The Battle for the Perfect Species

A New Third-Person Sci-Fi Battle Royale Arrives at Future Games Show
The Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026 delivered another unexpected World Premiere with the reveal of DNA NEMESIS, a futuristic third-person shooter that puts an unusual twist on the battle royale formula.
Developed by Aeternum Game Studios, DNA NEMESIS takes players into a brutal competition where different species fight for survival and ultimately for the title of the most evolved and powerful lifeform.
The concept immediately separates the game from traditional military-focused battle royales.
Instead of ordinary soldiers, players take control of anthropomorphic warriors with animal heads, each representing a different species and offering unique abilities.
The Ultimate Evolution
At the heart of DNA NEMESIS is a simple but intriguing idea:
Which species is the ultimate survivor?
Players can choose between ten different species, with each character possessing abilities inspired by the natural characteristics of the animal they represent.
This means that choosing a character is not simply a cosmetic decision.
Different species provide different tactical possibilities, potentially changing how players approach movement, combat and survival.
Animals Become Weapons
The World Premiere trailer highlighted the game’s unusual cast of characters.
Among the examples shown are characters capable of exploiting their biological characteristics during combat.
Winged characters, for example, can glide above the battlefield, giving them additional mobility and allowing them to approach encounters from different angles.
This creates an interesting foundation for a shooter where mobility and positioning could be just as important as raw firepower.
A Different Kind of Battle Royale
DNA NEMESIS appears to be taking the familiar battle royale structure and adding a strong science-fiction identity.
Instead of dropping hundreds of identical soldiers onto an arena, players enter the battlefield as genetically distinct competitors.
The result is a world where biology becomes part of the gameplay.
Every species can potentially offer a different approach to:
Movement
Combat
Positioning
Defence
Exploration
Team tactics
Survival
This could make character selection an important strategic decision before every match.
Third-Person Combat
The game is built around third-person shooting, giving players a clear view of their character and allowing the animal-based abilities to become an important visual part of combat.
The reveal trailer showcased the game’s futuristic environments and combat encounters while introducing the central conflict between the different species.
More detailed information about weapons, maps, game modes and progression is expected as development continues.
Ten Species to Choose From
One of the most interesting confirmed features is the initial selection of ten playable species.
Each species has its own unique ability based on natural mechanisms of attack or defence.
That opens the door for a potentially varied meta.
A highly mobile species could dominate vertical environments, while a stronger defensive character might be better suited to holding strategic positions.
The challenge for Aeternum Game Studios will be ensuring that every species remains useful without creating an obvious “best” choice.
December 2026 Release
Unlike several other World Premieres shown during Gamescom, DNA NEMESIS already has a relatively close release window.
The game is scheduled to launch on PC in December 2026. (GamesRadar+)
An exact release date has not yet been announced.
The developers therefore have only a few months to continue revealing the systems that will define the final experience.
Why DNA NEMESIS Is Interesting
The battle royale genre has become extremely competitive.
Games need a strong hook to distinguish themselves from established franchises, and DNA NEMESIS is certainly attempting to provide one.
Its combination of:
third-person shooting + battle royale gameplay + animal-based abilities + science-fiction setting
gives it a clear identity.
The most important question will be whether these ideas translate into genuinely strategic gameplay rather than simply serving as a visual gimmick.
If the different species meaningfully change how players move and fight, DNA NEMESIS could offer something substantially different from conventional battle royale shooters.
Gamescom 2026 World Premiere Series

The Future Games Show presented more than 40 games during its Gamescom showcase, including a series of World Premieres. (GamesRadar+)
At New Format, we’re covering these announcements individually — giving each game its own space rather than reducing the entire showcase to one large list.
From dark fantasy RPGs to hand-drawn Metroidvanias, tower defence and now futuristic creature-based combat, Gamescom 2026 continues to demonstrate the sheer variety of games currently in development.
