Blizzard Books in 2026 – What We Found Ahead of BlizzCon 2026

As BlizzCon 2026 approaches, attention is naturally focused on the future of Blizzard Entertainment’s games. World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and the wider Blizzard universe will dominate the event, but there is another part of Blizzard’s storytelling ecosystem worth watching: books, novels, comics and lore publications.

New Format investigated the current publishing catalogues and official stores to find out whether Blizzard has already announced any new books connected with BlizzCon 2026.

The short answer is:

There are Blizzard books scheduled for release in 2026 — but we have not found an officially announced brand-new Blizzard novel specifically tied to BlizzCon 2026.

That distinction is important.

Blizzard’s Books Are Still Part of Its Storytelling Universe

For many years, Blizzard has expanded its games through novels, short stories, art books, encyclopedias and comics.

World of Warcraft has one of the largest literary universes associated with a major MMORPG, with novels exploring characters and events that often sit alongside the game’s main storyline.

Diablo has also received novels, lore books and character-focused publications, while StarCraft has an extensive library of novels connected to its universe.

These books can provide additional context for characters, historical events and parts of Blizzard’s fictional worlds that cannot always be explored in the games themselves.

That makes the publishing side of Blizzard particularly interesting whenever a major new era begins.

And 2026 is certainly a major year for Blizzard.

Three Blizzard Books Stand Out in 2026

Our research across publisher catalogues and Blizzard’s official merchandise ecosystem found several Blizzard-related books scheduled for publication in 2026.

However, they are not all new stories.

World of Warcraft: Stormrage

Richard A. Knaak’s World of Warcraft: Stormrage is scheduled for a new Gallery Books edition in 2026.

The novel focuses on Malfurion Stormrage and the Emerald Nightmare, making it one of the more important novels in Warcraft’s literary history.

However, this is not a new Warcraft story.

The 2026 publication is a new edition of an existing novel.

World of Warcraft: Vol’jin: Shadows of the Horde

Another Warcraft publication receiving a new edition in 2026 is Michael A. Stackpole’s World of Warcraft: Vol’jin: Shadows of the Horde.

The story focuses on Vol’jin and events surrounding the Horde and Pandaria.

Once again, this is an existing Warcraft novel rather than a completely new story written for the current era of World of Warcraft.

The new edition nevertheless demonstrates that Blizzard’s older literary catalogue continues to receive attention.

The Most Interesting Discovery: StarCraft II: Flashpoint

The most intriguing publication we found is perhaps StarCraft II: Flashpoint, written by Christie Golden.

A new Gallery Books edition is scheduled for October 3, 2026.

That date immediately makes the publication interesting for anyone following BlizzCon 2026.

BlizzCon takes place in Anaheim on September 12–13, 2026.

The new edition of Flashpoint is therefore scheduled only a few weeks after the convention.

However, there is an important distinction:

Flashpoint is not a new novel.

The story was originally published during the StarCraft II era and is connected to the events surrounding the original StarCraft II storyline.

The 2026 release is a new edition rather than a previously unseen StarCraft story.

Why Is StarCraft Interesting Right Now?

This is where things become more interesting — but also where we need to separate confirmed information from speculation.

StarCraft has been largely absent from Blizzard’s major new-game announcements for years.

At the same time, interest in the franchise remains extremely strong.

With BlizzCon returning in 2026, any significant StarCraft-related announcement would immediately become one of the biggest stories of the convention.

The appearance of a new edition of StarCraft II: Flashpoint shortly after BlizzCon does not prove that Blizzard is preparing a new StarCraft game.

It does not prove that the book is connected to a BlizzCon announcement.

And it does not prove that Christie Golden is writing a new StarCraft novel.

There is currently no official evidence establishing any of those connections.

Nevertheless, it is an interesting coincidence worth monitoring.

What About New Warcraft Books?

World of Warcraft is entering another major phase of its story.

The Worldsoul Saga is continuing, with Midnight forming the second major chapter after The War Within.

That naturally creates opportunities for new literary material.

A new novel could explore characters, locations or events that are difficult to fit directly into the game.

Blizzard has used this approach many times in the past.

However, as of our research ahead of BlizzCon 2026, we have not found an officially announced new Warcraft novel that Blizzard has confirmed as a BlizzCon 2026 announcement.

That could change during the event.

Diablo Books Are Also Worth Watching

Diablo has its own extensive literary and lore catalogue.

Blizzard Gear currently features publications including Diablo: Book of Lorath, which expands the universe through character and lore material.

There are also other Diablo publications and merchandise aimed at fans interested in the world beyond the games.

However, these should not be confused with an upcoming new Diablo narrative novel.

At the moment, we have not found confirmation of a new Diablo novel specifically planned for announcement at BlizzCon 2026.

Could Blizzard Announce a Book at BlizzCon?

Absolutely.

BlizzCon has historically been much more than a video-game announcement event.

It is a celebration of Blizzard’s universes, including their characters, artwork, music, cinematics, cosplay and storytelling.

A new novel, comic, lore book or art book could therefore be announced alongside a larger game reveal.

But until Blizzard officially confirms such a publication, it would be incorrect to present it as an upcoming BlizzCon announcement.

That is especially important for reporting around BlizzCon, where speculation can quickly become mistaken for confirmed information.

The company has already demonstrated how powerful its universes can be across different forms of media.

A game can introduce a new character.

A novel can tell that character’s story from another perspective.

A comic can explore an event between two major chapters.

And a cinematic can bring the same universe to an entirely different audience.

This type of cross-media storytelling is increasingly common throughout the entertainment industry.

Blizzard has the advantage of owning several of the world’s most recognisable fantasy and science-fiction gaming universes.

New Format Verdict

At this stage, there is no confirmed new Blizzard novel announced specifically for BlizzCon 2026.

However, the publishing landscape is far from empty.

Three 2026 publications stand out:

World of Warcraft: Stormrage — new edition.

World of Warcraft: Vol’jin: Shadows of the Horde — new edition.

StarCraft II: Flashpoint — new edition, scheduled for October 3, 2026.

The StarCraft release is particularly interesting because of its timing immediately after BlizzCon.
