🧱 LEGO® SKYLINES — BUILD THE CITY OF YOUR DREAMS AT GAMESCOM 2026

The next title for NewFormat is LEGO® Skylines, a brand-new city-building game revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026.
Developed by Iceflake Studios and published by Paradox Interactive in collaboration with the LEGO Group, the game brings the Cities: Skylines concept into a fully LEGO-based world.
🏙️ BUILD A CITY — ONE BRICK AT A TIME
LEGO Skylines is described as a cozy, highly customisable city-builder.
You start with an empty piece of land and gradually transform it into a functioning LEGO metropolis.
Players can:
🏠 Build homes
🏢 Expand neighbourhoods
🏥 Construct hospitals
🏫 Develop services
🌳 Create parks
🏪 Build shops
🚜 Develop farms
🛣️ Design roads
💧 Manage water
⚡ Provide electricity
🍎 Supply food
The goal isn’t simply to make the biggest city — it needs to be both attractive and functional.
🧱 CITIES: SKYLINES MEETS LEGO
The basic idea is easy to understand:
CITIES: SKYLINES × LEGO
But this isn’t simply Cities: Skylines with LEGO models.
The developers are aiming to make the city-building experience more approachable while retaining deeper management systems for experienced simulation players.
Your city can become:
🏙️ A huge metropolis
🌊 A seaside town
🌳 A peaceful suburban community
🏭 An industrial centre
🤪 Something completely unconventional
🎨 MAKE IT YOUR OWN
Customisation is one of the game’s biggest selling points.
The developers want players to have considerable freedom over how their cities look and function.
The official announcement describes the game as a place where your imagination determines what you create.
That means two players could start with the same piece of land and end up with completely different cities.
⚙️ BEAUTIFUL DOESN’T MEAN FUNCTIONAL
Just like traditional city-building games, making your city look good isn’t enough.
Your citizens need:
⚡ Electricity
💧 Water
🍎 Food
🏥 Healthcare
🌳 Recreation
🛣️ Transportation
🏪 Services
You’ll therefore need to balance aesthetics with infrastructure.
A beautiful city with terrible roads and no electricity won’t survive for long.
🏗️ FROM ONE PLOT TO A METROPOLIS
The progression begins extremely simply.
EMPTY LAND

🏙️ LEGO METROPOLIS
As the city grows, additional buildings, decorations and services become available.

🎮 Nintendo Switch 2

🧠 WHY THIS COULD BE A BIG DEAL
The combination is surprisingly logical:
🧱 LEGO’s creativity
🏙️ Cities: Skylines-style management
🎨 Extensive customisation
⚙️ Simulation systems
👨👩👧 Citizen needs
🌆 Large-scale city building
It could introduce city-building to a much broader audience while still offering enough depth for simulation fans.
🔥 GAMESCOM 2026 FIRST IMPRESSION
LEGO Skylines might look like a simple, family-friendly city builder at first glance.
But underneath the LEGO aesthetic is a genuine management simulation where players have to think about infrastructure, resources, services, citizen happiness and city growth.
🧱 BUILD.
🏙️ MANAGE.
🎨 CUSTOMISE.
🌆 CREATE YOUR OWN CITY.
LEGO Skylines — coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
