Gamescom 2026 – Day 3 Afternoon Update: The Show Floor Takes Over
From Opening Hours to 3 PM, Gamescom Moves From Big Reveals to Hands-On Gaming
August 27, 2026 — Cologne, Germany
Gamescom 2026 has now reached the 15:00 CEST checkpoint on Day 3, and the character of the event is changing. Thursday is the first major public-facing day of the main exhibition, with visitors filling the halls, trying upcoming games and meeting developers and creators. German public broadcaster WDR reported this morning that more than 350,000 visitors are expected through Sunday, with roughly two-thirds coming from outside Germany.
Unlike Tuesday’s Opening Night Live and Wednesday’s major showcase events, today’s biggest stories are increasingly coming from inside the halls themselves.
🎮 Gamescom Is Now Fully Open to the Public
The biggest development since our 12:00 update is simple but important: Gamescom has moved into full public-show mode.
Visitors are now experiencing hundreds of playable demos across the exhibition halls, while publishers and developers continue to conduct interviews, stage demonstrations and reveal additional information.
The event runs at Koelnmesse through August 30.
The atmosphere is therefore very different from the previous two days.
This is no longer just about watching trailers.
It is about actually playing the games.
⚔️ Xbox Is Building Toward Its Biggest Day 3 Broadcast
The Xbox booth remains one of the major centres of attention.
Microsoft has 25 upcoming games and 140 playable stations at its Gamescom booth, including some of the biggest titles scheduled for Xbox and PC.
Among the playable games are:
Gears of War: E-Day
Fable
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Minecraft Dungeons II
METRO 2039
STRANGER THAN HEAVEN
Halo: Campaign Evolved
Forza Horizon 6
Alien: Isolation 2
Turok: Origins
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
STAR WARS: Zero Company
Xbox’s Thursday broadcast is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM CEST, meaning that at our 15:00 checkpoint the biggest Xbox portion of Day 3 is still ahead.
🔥 Gears of War: E-Day Remains One of the Biggest Hands-On Games
Among the Xbox games attracting the most attention is Gears of War: E-Day.
Gamescom visitors can play the first public hands-on campaign experience, exploring the origins of the Locust War and the beginning of the relationship between Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
The game is scheduled for release on October 6, 2026.
For Gamescom attendees, this is one of the rare opportunities to actually play the game months before launch.
🧱 Minecraft Dungeons II
Minecraft Dungeons II is also playable at the Xbox booth.
The sequel expands the action-RPG formula with tougher enemies, loot and new systems.
Xbox specifically highlights the opportunity to play the game for the first time at Gamescom, making it another major hands-on attraction for visitors.
✈️ Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Takes to the Skies
Another interesting Xbox booth experience is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Gamescom visitors can try the National Championship Air Races in a public playable experience.
That gives players the opportunity to experience high-speed competitive aviation rather than traditional long-form flight simulation.
⚔️ STAR WARS: Zero Company Arrives
Today is also launch day for STAR WARS: Zero Company.
The turn-based tactical RPG arrives on August 27, 2026, bringing a new tactical interpretation of the Star Wars universe.
Its Gamescom presence is particularly significant because players can experience the game during its actual release day.
🦝 Dumpster Gang Makes Its Xbox Debut
One of the newer stories emerging today is Dumpster Gang.
Xbox has announced the chaotic co-op sandbox for PC and Xbox, with a planned December 2026 release.
The concept is deliberately chaotic: one to four players control mischievous raccoons, causing as much mayhem as possible.
It is exactly the sort of unusual multiplayer concept that fits naturally into the broader indie and co-op side of Gamescom.
🕹️ The Indie Scene Is Getting Ready for Tonight
Another major event is waiting later today:
Gamescom Awesome Indies Show
The dedicated indie showcase takes place tonight and will bring another concentrated wave of smaller productions, new announcements and trailers.
That is particularly important for our New Format coverage because the indie showcase could provide another large batch of games suitable for individual articles.
Gamescom’s official schedule confirms the show as one of Thursday’s major broadcasts.
🎤 The Show Floor Is Becoming an Event in Itself
Another noticeable part of today’s coverage is the huge creator presence.
The official Gamescom signing area is operating throughout the day, with creators and streamers meeting visitors in Hall 11.2.
For example, Platin and Mango are scheduled for signing sessions from 15:00–17:00 today.
This illustrates how Gamescom has evolved beyond a traditional trade show.
It is now simultaneously:
GAME SHOWCASE + CONVENTION + CREATOR EVENT + FAN EVENT + BUSINESS EVENT.
🇩🇪 Gamescom Congress Also Opens
Away from the gaming booths, Gamescom Congress 2026 is also taking place today.
German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is opening the congress, which focuses on the broader social, educational, cultural and technological significance of games.
So while gamers are testing the newest releases in the exhibition halls, industry leaders are discussing the wider future of gaming.
🇪🇸 Spain Makes a Major Gamescom Push
Another interesting development from this morning is the strong international presence.
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE reports that around 100 Spanish companies are attending Gamescom 2026 to showcase their projects.
The event is once again functioning as a major European meeting point for developers from across the world.
⏰ 15:00 CHECKPOINT — WHAT’S NEXT?
The important thing is that the biggest broadcast of the afternoon hasn’t happened yet.

The Bottom Line
At 15:00 CEST, Day 3 hasn’t delivered another Opening Night Live-sized avalanche of announcements — and that’s actually the story.
Gamescom has entered its hands-on phase.
The games announced earlier this week are now being played, tested and analysed by visitors and press.
And the next major wave is about to begin.
At 16:00 CEST, Xbox takes over the spotlight.
And for New Format, that’s where our next major update should begin. 🎮🔥
