Alkimya: House of Wisdom Revealed at Gamescom 2026: A Dark Journey Through the Burning Library

A Historical Survival Horror Adventure Where Alchemy Meets Cosmic Horror

The Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026 delivered another World Premiere with Alkimya: House of Wisdom, a first-person survival-horror adventure set during the Fall of Baghdad in 1258. GamesRadar lists it as the first World Premiere in the show’s chronological rundown.

Developed by Iksyr, the game combines historical tragedy with dark fantasy, alchemy and supernatural horror.

Baghdad, 1258

Players take on the role of Yusuf, an alchemist who enters Baghdad’s legendary House of Wisdom while the city is being attacked.

His mission is deeply personal.

His daughter is dying, and Yusuf believes that the mysterious substance known as Iksyr may be the only thing capable of saving her.

But reaching it will mean entering a burning library filled with enemies — and something far more disturbing lurking beneath it.

The House of Wisdom Becomes a Nightmare

The game’s central location is inspired by the historic Bayt al-Hikma, or House of Wisdom, one of the most famous intellectual institutions associated with medieval Baghdad.

In Alkimya, however, this legendary centre of knowledge has become a terrifying labyrinth.

The building is burning, invading forces are closing in, and supernatural entities are emerging from its depths.

The result is a setting that combines historical drama with survival horror.

Alchemy as a Weapon

Alchemy isn’t simply part of the story.

It is also central to combat.

Yusuf can use weapons and equipment found throughout the House of Wisdom and enhance them using alchemical powers derived from cosmic materials.

This gives the game a distinctive gameplay identity.

Instead of relying exclusively on conventional firearms or medieval weapons, players must experiment with supernatural alchemical technology to survive.

Humans Aren’t the Only Threat

The invasion itself already makes Baghdad extremely dangerous.

But the deeper Yusuf travels into the House of Wisdom, the more apparent it becomes that another threat is present.

The trailer hints at eldritch creatures and supernatural forces hidden beneath the building.

This creates two overlapping dangers:

the human conflict above — and something ancient beneath it.

Survival Horror From a Different Perspective

Alkimya stands out because of its unusual historical setting.

Rather than placing survival horror in a familiar modern laboratory, abandoned hospital or spaceship, the developers have chosen 13th-century Baghdad.

That opens up an entirely different visual and narrative vocabulary:

  • Medieval architecture

  • Ancient manuscripts

  • Alchemical equipment

  • Burning libraries

  • Mongol invaders

  • Supernatural entities

  • Cosmic horror

The combination is one of the game’s biggest attractions.

A Personal Mission

Despite the scale of the historical events surrounding him, Yusuf’s motivation remains personal.

He isn’t entering the House of Wisdom to become a hero or change history.

He’s trying to save his daughter.

That gives the supernatural journey an emotional foundation and could make the player’s exploration feel more meaningful than simply surviving from one encounter to the next.

Release Information

Alkimya: House of Wisdom is coming to PC and PlayStation 5. GamesRadar lists the game as coming soon, while other Gamescom coverage reports a 2028 release window.

The exact release date has not yet been announced.

Why Alkimya: House of Wisdom Is Worth Watching

Alkimya immediately stands out from the other Gamescom reveals because of its setting.

The combination of:

1258 Baghdad + survival horror + alchemy + historical warfare + cosmic horror

is unusual enough to make the game memorable from its first trailer.

If Iksyr can successfully combine its historical setting with strong exploration, combat and horror mechanics, Alkimya could become one of the more distinctive independent horror games revealed at Gamescom 2026.
